Remember the story about Michael Jordan getting cut from his high school basketball team? Or, the freshman on the bench not getting playing time because the coach just doesn’t want to ruffle feathers of upperclassmen – or their parents?
I see this in organizations constantly. Flat or mediocre performance is tolerated and reinforced because of a lack of courage, oversight or desire for excellence.
